Winter can be a time when we get stuck in a rut. Yes, the days are getting longer, and a few signs of spring are in the air, yet it’s still cold and gray in many parts of the country. If so, what can you do to pull your PR out of the winter blah syndrome? Here are some ideas.
Three Ways to Make the Most of Your PR Budget for Emerging Brands
By Katy Green
SHIFT Communications - February 23, 2017
Maximizing a modest budget is commonplace for startups. That’s especially true when it comes to PR. Partnering with a PR firm is an important investment for marketers, but in order to be successful they need to be able to work with an agency that knows how to be scrappy during slow periods, while ramping up the volume and velocity when things get busy. Here are three keys for startups to consider as they begin their PR initiative.
9 PR lessons from ‘Best Picture’ Oscar nominees
By Dee Donavanik
PR Daily - February 23, 2017
The nine films nominated for best picture at this year’s Academy Awards differ in genres and plots, but all share one important element: They all tell great stories. As PR pros, that’s also one of the most important aspects of our job. We help clients determine their message, decide which audiences we want to affect, use the appropriate channels and find the most effective ways to tell captivating stories. Though we might not be able to directly relate to Ryan Gosling’s experience as a struggling jazz pianist or Dev Patel’s quest to find his lost family, here are lessons from their characters’ journeys that we can apply to our own role as professional storytellers.

By Cheryl Conner
Forbes - February 22, 2017
While there’s obvious utility in streamlining a marketing strategy, most PR professionals will tell you that by automating your media outreach, you’ll lose the personalization that’s imperative to success. Entrepreneurs generally understand the "push" aspects of public relations. But here's how to develop an effective "pull" strategy as well.
DINOSAUR FEET AND SALVADOR DALI: Inside the incredible, art-filled office of London PR firm Freuds
By Rob Price
Business Insider - February 23, 2017
When most people say they work in a cool office, it means dress-down Fridays and a ping-pong table. If you're really lucky, you might even have a slide. But Freuds, a London public relations firm, takes it to a whole new level. Original works from Banksy, corridors full of Damien Hirst pieces, vintage furniture and even multiple dinosaur feet — it has to be seen to be believed. Earlier this month, Business Insider UK took a tour of Freuds' office at the invitation of Brew PR, a PR firm acquired by Freuds in January 2016 — and took photos of the whole thing.

By Russell Working
Ragan - February 22, 2017
It can be maddening to pitch a fantastic story—one that you know is perfect for a publication—only to have journalists ignore you. You're left to guess what the problem was. Wasn't the pitch detailed enough? Was your email too long? Should you have tweeted that producer instead, or tried a phone call? Gather around as Gregory Galant, co-founder and chief executive of the digital PR and journalism site Muck Rack, expounds on the behavior of the bewildering creature known as the American journalist.

According to new research from location-level measurement firm Market Force Information, retail giant Nordstrom didn’t need the recent customer-engagement and stock bump it recently received in the wake of the Ivanka Trump product-line controversy to hold onto shoppers’ loyalty—for the fifth year in a row, Nordstrom ranked as the nation’s favorite fashion retailer in Market Force’s annual retail industry study, which polled over 10,000 consumers (The survey took place in December, before the Ivanka incident).

“CSR is not PR,” says Gaurav Dwivedi, CEO at MyGov, the government’s innovative citizen engagement platform, at the CSR Leadership Conference organised by Nasscom supported by Forbes India and CNBC TV18 in Delhi. One of the common mistakes that companies make is to undertake certain activities for mileage, even if those are far off from their areas of expertise.
