"Agency life is dynamic and changes rapidly. One day an employee might be assigned only a few tasks, while the next day they are overwhelmed because of last-minute client requests. If recent graduates want to be successful and competitive, they need to be flexible with their workload and willing to work on various projects and tasks that may not follow a set process." - Myles Vives, eREACH
Improving Marketing Communication in 2017
By Elizabeth Edwards, Founder and President of Volume Public Relations
O'Dwyer's - November 3, 2016
Respecting the basic laws of human behavior will garner you more results. Enough with the speeds and feeds already. Craft content that engages with the emotions of your audience. Perception is everything. Every word matters. Every single word used in your messages has an impact on how your audience views your brand. By embracing these basic rules, and respecting your audience instead of fighting their natural preferences, you’ll produce outcomes that far exceed traditional tactics.

Tata Renews Rediff/Edelman Mandate Amid PR Battle With Cyrus Mistry
By Arun Sudhaman
The Holmes Report - November 3, 2016
Cyrus Mistry's dramatic removal as chairman of Tata Sons last week is not only the biggest business story to emerge from India in recent times. It also shines a spotlight on the public relations moves that underpin an increasingly unseemly war of words between the $100bn Tata empire on one hand, and four-year chairman Mistry on the other. For the Tata group, typically viewed as a model of corporate probity in India, Ratan Tata's (pictured) decision to dispense with his handpicked successor raises some uncomfortable questions for India's most trusted brand. Aiding him in these efforts is Golinopinion, which handles PR for Mistry's family firm, the Shapoorji Pallonji Group, a major shareholder in Tata Sons. On the Tata side, meanwhile, Debasis Ray is overseeing the company's public relations, six weeks after returning to Tata Trusts as head of public affairs and spokesperson. The Holmes Report has also learned that Tata renewed its lucrative mandate with the Rediffusion-Edelman agency alliance last month, shortly before the boardroom coup. Some are already suggesting that reputation will be the biggest casualty of the continued fallout from Mistry's sacking.

4 Best Practices to Ensure Your Pitches Catch a Journalist’s Eye
By Sophie Maerowitz
PR News - November 3, 2016
Meagan Phelan, executive director of the Science Press Package at the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), will be speaking on incorporating visual assets into pitches at PR News' Media Relations Conference on Dec. 8 in Washington, D.C. Phelan shares four best practices for incorporating visuals into content targeted at the media. Reporters greatly value B-roll video. Reporters prefer "process" video over "talking head" video. Keep visuals like animations and infographics simple, without too many labels. Be wary of captions that counteract a photograph's ability to break up text for more visual interest. Provide GIFs related to the research (or content).

NutsPR Spotlight: Rachel Miller
NutsPR - November 3, 2016
''The world of comms enables me to do that, and working in PR invigorates and inspires me. I’ve been a guest speaker at Kingston University’s Post-Graduate and Masters level Internal Communication Management courses in London for about five years, and created and ran a social media strategy course on behalf of the Institute of Internal Communication (IoIC). I’m a Fellow of both the Chartered Institute of Public Relations and IoIC and invest in my career by contributing to books, completing Continuous Professional Development (CPD) to remain an Accredited Practitioner, and learning from my peers. I co-founded The IC Crowd in 2012 to bring professional communicators together, and can see the difference a network like that makes to people. I’m also expanding All Things IC communication consultancy and have lots of ideas up my sleeve."
Tips for Better PR Team Collaboration
By Meredith L. Eaton, Vice President at March Communications
March Communications - November 4, 2016
Engineering team collaboration may sound like the ultimate exercise in creating false harmony. But, a recent PubClub Master’s Institute panel got me thinking about ways to go about it that can prove to be very productive and effective. Beyond establishing clear communication, processes and roles, there are many ways to help teams collaborate better. Check out my three tips for helping engineer collaboration, including (1) working toward the why, (2) understanding your team and yourself, and (3) hiring smart. Asking the right questions in interviews can also help glean how people will respond and interact in team environments. For instance, do they answer questions with “I” or “we?” How do they define their management style? How would they deliver criticism to a teammate? Or, how do they receive criticism?
6 reasons why your media coverage expectations are unreasonable
By Marjorie Comer
Axia Public Relations - November 4, 2016
You’re aiming for the wrong type of media outlet: Getting a small- or medium-sized business featured on a site like MSNBC isn't likely. You should keep perspective about where your company and expertise are the right fit. The size of the campaign doesn’t align with your expectations: Perhaps you opted for a local or regional PR campaign versus a national PR campaign. It is important to note you will not get media coverage every day. You are overestimating the number of media outlets that should be providing coverage. The news topic isn’t relevant. You want media coverage right now: It can take several months from initial pitch and follow-up to story publication. You aren’t hiring a PR firm soon enough: If you have news you want to share or are launching a new product, hire a PR firm early to time media coverage with your launch – instead of waiting until the last minute.
