When Paid and Earned Media Join Forces, Everyone Wins
By Dawn Papandrea
Adweek - October 14, 2026
Kelsey Agostinelli, VP of marketing operations for Mars, agreed that getting everyone on board with a more integrated process can be complex. “You have to change the system and the way you plan,” she said. Agostinelli pointed to the strategic use of case studies to bolster the argument. By demonstrating how an integrated process can deliver on shared goals, supported by measurement, teams can build a stronger case for change. But in a global organization with numerous budget owners, she acknowledged that the shift takes time.
With Fewer Big Holdcos, Arthur Sadoun Says Client Conflict Is No Longer a Dealbreaker
By Rebecca Stewart
Adweek - October 13, 2026
Clients understand [that agencies can] manage conflict, because they're doing so with others. Agencies that put too much focus on new business versus their old business—yes, it can help PR momentum, or the financial market, but it's been shown time and again that a new business press release doesn't improve your bottom or top line.
Kelly Clarkson vs. Art of Play: What's the biggest PR takeaway from the feud?
By Jess Ruderman
PR Week - October 13, 2026
Comms pros were quick to comment on the series of statements from both Clarkson and Art of Play, debating whether the exchange represented a masterclass in direct engagement or a disaster in crisis management.
Fujifilm's CCO on mentorship: 'It's really simple. Pay it forward.'
By Rachel Salis-Silverman
PR Daily - October 14, 2026
When I join an organization, I ask people what they want to be when they grow up. Then I often connect them with other business leaders, because my view is just one. At Fujifilm, we created a professional development program where each team member gets a set budget and chooses their own path.
Your company's reputation is probably 6 months behind reality
By Tyler Sumrall
PR Daily - October 14, 2026
That’s one reason comms work can feel repetitive. The message that seems old internally may still be new or completely unknown to much of your audience. By the time a company is ready to move on to the next story, audiences on the outside are often still processing the last one. Announcing a change is relatively easy, but building recognition and credibility around that change takes longer. People generally want to see consistency before they update their opinions.
'There's no such thing as internal communications now': The external blur
By Sean Devlin
Ragan Communications - October 14, 2026
Matt Prince, fractional head of communications at Sweetgreen, posed a question every internal comms pro is familiar with: When does a message need a press release, and when is an internal memo the way to go? Prince’s path to the answer is a “carry test” made up of three questions that decide whether a message goes to everyone, stays with an affected audience or doesn’t require communication at all.
Understanding AI Agents
By PRSA Staff
PRsay - October 13, 2026
Host Ray Day, APR, vice chair of Stagwell, executive chair of Allison Worldwide, and PRSA’s 2026 immediate past chair, asked how PR professionals can integrate artificial intelligence into their work and make the technology a strategic partner, rather than an afterthought. The agency’s cultural-pulse AI agent looks at “social signals, however you define them, for specific patterns that are happening, TikTok trends,” and the like, she said. “You’re trying to identify those trends as they’re just starting to bubble up … certain types of terms being used more often.”
Thought Leadership for Executives Who Don't Have Time
By Gini Dietrich
Spin Sucks - October 13, 2026
The fix starts with finding the right face for the brand (it doesn’t have to be the CEO), then adding one small step to something they already do: meetings, Slack rants, sales calls, panels, podcasts. AI can turn a transcript into a draft in minutes, but it can’t add experience, expertise, people, process, or culture.
Things people don't say
Seth's Blog - October 14, 2026
Marketers and politicians too. We don’t say them because it’s assumed. And because we’re afraid. “I might be wrong.”, “I’m just guessing”, “This might be selfishly motivated.” When an AI doesn’t say these things, we’re frustrated when they turn out to be the case. Because our default in interactions with machines is that they don’t dissemble, confuse or mislead. Perhaps we should print these caveats out and read them before we read an ad, believe a scammy text or interact with an LLM.

Beyond its central focus on creativity, the 2026 survey examines the status and influence of communications within organisations, including whether senior leadership regards the function as a strategic partner and involves communications teams in decision-making.
